Learning Assessment & Intervention

A learning or psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of intelligence, achievement, memory, processes, and behaviour influencing one’s academic potential and performance. An assessment conducted by our staff will provide a detailed perspective of learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses. We will also provide a diagnosis (if applicable), a detailed report, and recommendations for maximizing performance at home and school. No referral is required to begin the assessment process.

This assessment is appropriate for the investigation of:

  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Gifted Learning Profile
  • ADHD

Where: Available at both our Fort Erie and St. Catharines locations.

How: Testing days are in person while the initial consultation and results visits can be in person, by video, or by phone.

Who: Services available for children (6 and up), adolescents, and adults.

Price: Please call our office for a quote. Extended health benefits may cover a portion or all of your treatment.

If behavioural or emotional issues are present, the full assessment will include measures of emotional and behavioural functioning.

The assessment may include measurements of cognitive ability, achievement, adaptive functioning, memory, executive function, attention, and other aspects of brain processing. Assessments conducted in our clinic may also include a quantitative EEG, which enables us to provide valuable information on brain performance.

Assessment Process

The assessment begins with intake information and an interview. It is helpful if you can provide a copy of any prior assessment results, a recent report card, and a writing sample. The full assessment takes approximately 8 to 10 hours and will be booked at your convenience over 2 or 3 days.

Two weeks following the last date of testing, you are invited to a results visit in which all testing results and diagnoses will be explained to you. A summary report will also be provided for you to take to your school or physician.

Please arrive for testing well prepared:

  • Intake forms must be completed before the initial interview is conducted.
  • Ensure that you or your child/adolescent have had a good night’s sleep and eaten breakfast.
  • Breaks are provided as needed. Please bring a drink and snack to maintain your energy level for optimal performance.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
